This is an old build. The springs / shocks / struts are stock. I've had the TSP catted Y on the car for just over 10 years now, but it's always hung very low. Is this normal? When I'm on the interstate sparks fly everywhere. The headers are pacesetter LT's, the catback is just an lmii . There's legit nowhere to push this thing up further. Does anyone else experience this?
My Kooks LTs with catted Y tuck and Corsa catback tucks up a fair bit higher than that. One thing you could do is rotate your clamps so that the hardware isn't hanging down like that.
I may attempt rotating the clamps, but I'm not sure how much space that will buy me. I believe it must be the original version of the y-pipe as it's been on the car since 2010. I may keep the catalytic converters from it and go to my local custom fab guy and have him do something. He made an outrageous setup for my k3500 pickup with lm1 bullets and some off the shelf parts store cats.
At stock height that, by my eyeball-o-meter, is a lot closer to the ground than should be the case. Is the tubing, running along the driveshaft, the lowest part of the system or is the y similarly low?
Well. It hung so low that I hit something and it actually came off the car. What a nightmare. Fortunately it was near my garage, I had to get out and unbolt the one side that was still connected to the header. I'm considering (in the interim since it's open header atm) taking it to a Meineke and having them weld the Y all together (no clamps) and then bolting it on to the car as high as they can. I saw that Mufflex makes some type of hanger designed specifically for the drivers side of the Y. Another thing I've considered is taking my old Pacesetter offroad Y and taking that to a shop and having them weld in some high flow cats and a flowmaster merge, or having a custom fabbed Y made with a merge and high flow cats. I have to have cats and a merge on this car. The rasp with the LM is too strong, but I do love the sound of that exhaust and am apprehensive about changing it for anything other than perhaps a GMMG.
