AC-41-931 1998 z28 plug
I am concerned though that in the future maybe i will try to find the set thats exactly the same specs as that original factory iridium plg.
i
My cars bone stock aint a racer and or a wrencher much any more as i drive less that 1,000 miles a year retired and at times i may want to see if my capability is as good as it once was to possiblh try and replace the rear #8 plug my self .i also hear that these milenial mechs now dont want to do many repairs like old boomer type mechs shops woul probably do in the past.
Now ive tried to find out the ac-41-932, ac 41 -962 41-110 and 41-162 hard to find and mostly amazon e bay wall mart oreilys auto zone all seem to state plug aint right of any of these they may carry its quite frustrating.
idea that maybe a 2003-2005 corvette plug may be equivalent to the original plug in my car , just wondered if any of you have any experience with this and may want to pass it on
thanks
The 41-931 plugs currently in your '98 Z28 are not iridium. That part number is the correct original plug for your '98 LS1 engine but the plug is platinum tipped, and the correct gap is 0.060".
In 2003, GM released service bulletin #03D-J-171 stating that a new plug with an iridium tip had been released as the service replacement for the original platinum plug used in several applications, including the 1998-02 Camaro with LS1. This plug was part number 41-985 (#12571164) and came with a smaller gap of 0.040". This was later superseded by 41-110 (#12621258), also iridium.
In 2013, GM released service bulletin #13D-070 stating that 2006 and older models that had been previously covered by the iridium plug (41-110) were now to be moved back to a more cost-effective platinum plug under part number 41-962.
I removed the original platinum tipped plugs from my '98 Z28 about ~18 years ago and switched to a copper tipped NGK plug (TR55, #3951) which has performed great. I tried the newer iridium tipped Delco plugs (as per the service bulletin listed above) on my '02 Z28 several years later and found that they did not perform as well as the copper tipped TR55s in my '98, but it's not really a great comparison as this was between two different cars (though both LS1 engines were stock at the time).
