Default Throttle body comparability?

Looking to go with a GEN3 DBW setup. Haven’t bought the engine yet but thinking LQ4 from 2005/2006. 799 heads, cam/springs, injectors, nitrous etc…

I have a fast 92 intake (cathedral) and a 2010 Camaro 4 bolt throttle body (6pin)

Can I buy an appropriate pedal/tac and run this throttle body with a P59 or do I need a period correct unit?

Comparability, not my best… so now that I’ve backed it off a tad….

What I really wanted was to run what I have on a Gen3 6.0 using a standalone DBW harness for a truck.

I have the harness (8 pin TB)
I have a LS2 90mm TB (6 pin, silver blade)

I’m reading all I need to do is re-pin the harness DBW connector to an 6 pin and do a little copy paste work to the TB area HPT and I should be fine.

Does this solution check out?

fyi,
I also have a LS3 90mm TB (gold blade) and understand this won’t work with my GEN3 harness.

The HPT forums are full of threads where people have weird 50% throttle issues and worse when trying to mix and match. Unless you have matching pedal, TAC module, TB, and harness to work with the computer and OS you are using, be prepared to diagnose some crazy problems. People have had mixed results, but mostly ended up getting matching components before everything worked properly.

Been reading some of that…

Looks like LS2 TB is the way to go along with a matching pcm/pedal/tac.
I plan on a DBW P59 from 05/06/07. I’ll need the pedal tac from the same years.

Harness I’ll rework is a common standalone Vortec 8pin, looks like a straight forward conversion to 6pin.

I also see some work in HPT, I still haven’t researched that, hoping it’s a find what I want and a cut/paste job…

Hope That does it.

The OEM LS2 throttle body is the weakest and least reliable one of the bunch. I have an AC Delco LS3 TB on my 2006 GTO LS2 and it works just fine.

Yeah butt... as I understand it the LS3 TB is NOT compatable with a Gen 3 PCM unless you buy a LS2 to LS3 TB adapter harness that remaps pins/voltages/vudoo/etc.

Admittedly I don't know that much or I wouldn't have asked in the first place, is there something about the E40 ECU (isn't that what's in your car?) that allows this to happen? A site I use for some compatability info.
https://www.psiconversion.com/tech/idguide.html

Least reliable sucks too, not sure what that really means especially when LS2 TB reliability numbers are compared to reliability numbers of the LS3 TB. Assuming we just compare ACD parts I'd be suprized if I the delta was more than 3-5% points diff if that.

The real problem with the LS2 is the freaking cost! The diff between the LS2 and the LS3 is like $100 last I checked. So if the failure rate is high on LS2's this isn't a great solution for me as I find all the cracks.

FYI:
I have both an LS2 and a LS3 TB in my possession.

I ran an LS3 throttle body on a Gen 3 411 PCM in a C5 Corvette with nothing more than a simple LS2 wire harness adapter from Michigan Motorsports. No modifications to the wiring.

Just have to limit the throttle opening to like 98.5% in HP tuners to avoid REP problems and codes.

The information is out there if you dig far enough.

I actually have a crappy youtube video on the topic under PNW Car Mods.

I didn't have to use any kind of harness adapter on my GTO. The LS3 TB was a direct bolt in replacement and plugged right into the existing harness. Ran just fine even before I got it retuned.

LS1 harness has to use an adapter as the TPS and throttle actuator are separate connectors where the LS2 is a single 6 pin.

Thanks for the info. I see a lot of info that says the sweeps inside the TB differ,

in the gen 4 both sweeps go 0-5v the same direction

while the gen 3 sweeps have opposing 0-5v directions,

that's part of what the x link harness adapter fixes.

obviously I then read this and of course it all makes perfect sense, it’s the internet and so far I’m still confused but I’ll keep reading until I get my hands on some stuff.

I have plenty of LQ4 options locally, 2 are 2006 drop outs with pedal/tac and are reasonably priced, lowish miles and good oil pressure… reportedly. I’ll pick one of them up this weekend hopefully.

That rules out pedal tac problems too.

I plan to bench test this setup before it goes in the car. I’ll throw both TB’s into the test and see for myself. I’ll be sure to validate the original TB works before I test the LS2/3.
