Default 125 amp alternator

Ive had to replace my alternator on my 2002 Camaro z28 LS1 and learned about a truck alternator upgrade you can do, went to a junk yard and found a 125 amp alternator out of an 04 Tahoe (maybe it was newer but it had a big "04" written on it, definitely was a 2000-2007 tahoe with the 5.3) , which confuses me because I didn't know any 5.3s came with 125 amp alternators and I haven't heard of anyone putting a 125 amp from a tahoe on their 02 Z28. the bolts line up to my bracket and the 4 pin connecter will go in but I need to make sure its safe and wont start a fire while driving. Any input is appreciated. Sorry about the dirty carpet.

That is the Bosch version, It'll probably work for a while, but they are not known for high mileage longevity.
IF it maintains 14 volts, go ahead and run it. Yes, I would carry a fire extinguisher, and I WOULD recommend mounting the fire extinguisher where you can reach it while belted in.

A better unit is the AD244 Delco/ Delphi 145 amp. Trade number 8292. Those are damn good units, will make 110 amps at dead low ldle. . I like to mount a larger diameter pulley on the 8292, spins 'em slower, holds the belt better, and they still make plenty output at idle.

Good to know, thanks for this info, so this is a 125 amp correct? I'm still looking to upgrade to a 145 this is simply whatI could find at the junkyard, will be ordering a good new 145 amp soon.

This is the one you are looking for. I think they are bigger than 125amp though.

Correct, Lester#8292
that is the Delco AD244 or DR44G, rated 145 Amps.
Bigger diameter but the mounts are the same.
They are a very good unit. upgraydd B+ (power) wire to get full output.
Factory uses a tiny- 10 Gauge-ish wire as a fusible link, limits effective output.
2 Gauge is not overkill for 145 Amps.
