25% UnderDrive VS Electric Water Pump
Long story short, bought a 96 4th gen Firebird with LS swap. The 6.0 engine has issues, so got a 5.3 to drop in for now, with a cam n few mods. I'm new to LS but very familiar with SBC and valvetrain setup/mods in general.
The car will be kinda S/S and not see many miles, it already has a larger radiator and I'm gonna put a shroud and better fan on it, than it came with. AC deleted and the power steering was already looped, I'm use to manual steering anyway(always convert my cars and prob do this one proper, if i like it enough).
Been planning on getting a 25% UD damper(I like UD pulleys on my SBC stuff). I know more than 10% UD sacrifices dampening(for the LS) and don't plan on getting even 10k out of this engine really(kinda use to old V8's not lasting long LOL). But it just occurred to me, I don't have to sacrifice dampening if i go electric water pump. I do prefer mechanical(even fans) But why not try electric with this modern marvel LS [No worries bout the charging if i go UD, the car has less electrical demand and i UD my EFI SBC cars w/o issue]
Of course the cost is higher for the WP than the UD damper.
I did just drill n tap the WP LOL but oh well

Richard Holdener made a good point on tonight's LiveStream. One will Reduce cooling at low RPM, the other will Improve! I did forget electric WP comparable to running constant RPM but not as high as a mechanical peak. Tho idle will be drastically different for either. Normally I run lower compression(less heat) for my pump gas UD SBC's and this 5.3 won't be high but the 6.0 was/will be higher. Still it's not like this is a stock car and i don't know how to improve cooling.
