I'm about to go to my work to make some power steering lines for my Formula, and I was wondering if there was any reason all the pre-made ones I have seen are so long. The kit from Huronspeed loops down and then back up, and it seems like unnecessary length and weight. I mocked mine up last night, and I have a nice path from my rack to my pump on the pressure side using a 45 fitting on the rack and an extended 90 fitting on the pump. There's not going to be much movement between the engine and the rack, and I'm going to add a little length to the hose so it never gets pulled tight. Looks cleaner to me. Any reason I shouldn't go this route?
Well, since no one is excited about custom power steering lines, I went with my first thought and made some that were slightly long to account for drivetrain flex. I used two 45 degree fittings on the rack to position the hoses away from the crossover pipe, and added an extended 90 degree fitting on the pump side. Much cleaner than factory routing OR overly long pre-made lines:
