Default Air filters, custom air box/lid

The regular panel filters on the 4th gen is the same for the V6 and V8. Many people have done power upgrades like heads/cam/intake and exhaust. Is the air filter the next restriction to improve on?

The reason I ask, I had a 78mm Fast Intake installed back in 2008. I thought it is about time I upgraded to a 102mm with matching throttle body. Its on its way now. I didn't buy an air lid just yet. My plan is to 3D print something, totally custom. Now I can use the panel filter (probably easier), or I could create an air box that works with the ram air hood and pop in two conical air filters.

Panel filters are easily avaiable locally, but the conical could be a nice cutom look too. My main thing is, does something with two filter cones like the Volant intake let more air flow through than the standard sized panel filter. I guess aera comes into account, but with it being conical, not sure how to work out the air flow. No numbers seem to be listed.

Sorry I havn't posted for a long while, still got the same car. Been doing bits to it over the years. I should start contributing to this forum more.

The larger TB will gain nothing. Your present one flows all the cfm your engine can use.
The larger TB will result in no throttle response after it is open enough to satisfy that need.

Yes good point, if the suction isn't there from the engine, then no matter how large the straw is, it cant consume more air.

The engine was a 346ci, its now a 383ci. Still the same intake.
