Thanks for the replies guys. Im not quite sure about it being a leak either. It isnt the typical leak sound. It is a consistent sound when driving the car. It also seems to only make the noise when driving. If I rev the motor in park it is not noticeable. But when gasing the car while driving it gets faster. It really does sound like it may be some internal engine sounds. If anybody has anymore suggestions to what it may be please reply. I took a ride with a member from the board and he told me it was pretty consistent to the way his(I think he said Road Runner) sounded with headers.
Thanks

Had a similar sound on my headers until I blocked off the AIR fittings.

The headers came with block off plates for those, and we did use them. I had another suggestion that it may be the sound of the injectors firing. I am not that knowlegable about internal engine components(and sounds they make) so this was from someone who is. I really appreciate all the responses.

We tightened the bolts to the GM specs for the original bolts. Do you think that was a good idea or go tighter if able too?

Bad move. It appears that everyone agrees about the stockers being the best. The difference is, GM gasket are the $#!t (oddly enough), and the paper gaskets just are $#!t.

I still am not 100% convinced that I have a leak. I let a couple other people listen and they dont think it is a leak. I put the car up on ramps last night to look under there for any loose plug wires. I noticed that I only hear the noise on the drivers side and only from underneath. If it was a leak, would I hear it from above the engine too? I am going to tighten all bolts again and if it doesnt go away I may try the metal gaskets. I would sure hate to rip it apart again, put metal gaskets in, and still get the noise. Do you think that I should run it by a muffler shop and see if they think it is a leak sound before going that route.
I have been reading many posts of people with headers that say it is the nature of the beast to get more valvetrain noise and I honestly think that may be my case. Has anyone ever installed headers and never gotten more noise from their engine? In my searches it seems like lots of people experience what I am experiencing with headers.
Another thing I noticed was it did sound louder at the first start and quieted down after awhile.
Thanks again for all your guys help.

i dont know man i have no lifter noise or leaks whatsoever, cept on the rear ipipe connection but thats a different story, my valvetrain is a little more noisy now with double springs i dont know how loud yours is, so i cant really say if its normal or not. it is normal for you car to be louder when cold and quiet down when it warms up. replacing the gaskets shouldnt be too hard with the ypipe connected. if it were me i would replace it anyway just because of all the ppl on here that have had problems not using the metal gaskets. hope you figure things out

Thanks for all your help. Im taking it to the shop after work. I am going to have him check all plugs and wires first. Then tighten down all bolts again. If it persists I am gonna go to the metal gaskets.
Its not really all that loud it just annoys me. I am very **** when it comes to my car and any little thing I see/hear that doesnt sound right to me I question. I will post tomorrow and let you know if I found anything out.

Took the car to the shop last night and it does look like it was a leak. It seemed to be leaking where the header and cat convert. bolt together. I used the new gasket edelbrock supplied but it must not have sealed up well. We are going to try and use the original one I had on the car today. The car only had 3000 miles on it and the gasket doesnt look to bad.
Hopefully the tick will be ceased.

You probably should have just gotten a new gasket rather than reuse your original. It was like $12 for the passenger side and $9 for the driver side collector gaskets. Plus another $20 for metal gaskets that go between the headers and the engine (I think Thunder Racing or TByrne has them). Good luck.

Default Finally fixed!

Well the leak has been fixed. We used the original metal GM gasket at the collector and fixed the leak. No more annoying tick. I ordered a new one so if this one leaks I will put the new one in. I think I will be OK though because I drove the car all weekend and it sounded great. Thanks for all the help along the way.
