Header collector question
Header collector question I alway hear header collector length helps you make more or less torque at different rpms. My question is in a full exhaust system setup headers to muffler how does the collector affect anyhting since an extension to the collector is being used to go out the back of the car. So in essence a 32" collector now becomes a 10" collector with the addition of all the extra piping?

Keep in mind you have primary tube length. Then you have collectors, then you have x-pipe/h-pipe, and the rest of the exhaust. One of the things a collector can be used for is to create a venturi to help scanvenge. Most collectors are simply a transition from 4 pipes into one, and don't utilize a venturi efect, so they aren't as much use as a propely designed merge collector. Look at LGM long tubes for the C5 if you want to see a proper merge collector.

The rub is that the merge collector must be designed for your particular engine. Your camshaft and valves, your combustion chamber, compression ratio, exhaust port, and your header configuration, all communicate intimately with the merge collector, especially when your motor is working at greater than 100% volumetric efficiency. If the basic collector parameters are not designed with these factors in mind, your motor won’t realize its potential.
