Mine looked a lot like that when I took it off after 50,000 miles. All kinds of oil residue and carbon build-up from the EGR. I just covered the electrical connections and sprayed it out with carb & choke cleaner. It blasted all that nasty stuff out of there. Gave it a quick wipe down and re-installed. Car seemed to run a little better. (Or maybe it was my imagination)

That would be my guess. I think they all look that way. Mine did. Stick your finger inside the intake & swipe the bottom behind the TB. You will most likely find fresh oil. Hence the reason people install Greddy Catch Cans.

That is normal. Spray some snorkel cleaner in there, and use a toothbrush to clean it off. Too much of that residue build up will cause a rough idle. Definately nothing to worry about.
