Default Finished my Pacesetter install

I finally finished up my Pace longtube install and I just wanted to make a few comments....

1. Fit on the headers was great.... not a single clearance issue.

2. Make no mistake.... their y-pipe SUCKS. I heard this going in and I plan to eventually have a custom y, but it really does fit badly. It is too long and pushed the muffler back 1.5 inches towards the bumper. I am afraid I may get some banging from this. No clearance issues with the floor pan... at least an inch in most spots which was a pleasant suprise. Also whoever welded the hangar bracket on myst have been drunk because it is about 2 inches too far back and at least 2 inches low... it was a bitch to get it to fit.

3. The Pace system is NOT compatible with SLP subframe connectors. I had to remove one of the triangulation braces on the drivers side to get the y-pipe in place.

4. I removed the whole OEM manifold/cat assembly as one piece on both sides.... not sure why everyone dismantles them into 2 pieces.... they just drop out the bottom.

5. I have wussy jackstands, so I was only able to get the car about 24" off of the ground.... still, the passenger side header went right in. It is truly all about the angle you attack from.

6. Get a helper..... I did this 100% alone and I looked like I was in a barfight I was clonked in the head so many times by the headers. Leaving the spark plugs in was helpful.... gives a nice place to hook the flanges to hold them temporarily.

Anyway, just wanted to post since it is done. Now I just need my ERG/AIR blockoffs and some O2 extensions and I will be done. Can't wait to fire it up.

Glad to hear another positive header install story. That sucks about their y-pipe issue though. It's good to hear the manifold/cats can come out in one piece. I will try it that way when I install my headers in a few weeks. A few less rusty bolts to deal with. Thanks!

I would not necessarily recommend leaving the spark plugs in. I only left the rearmost passenger in so that I wouldn't have to reach it later. You could end up accidentally breaking one of them off in the block.

true you can break them, doesnt mean you cant take them out only the ceramic part would break, i have done 2 installs already and left the plugs in with no problems.

sounds great, you could also look into TSP's new Y, which I would think would be a lot better than the pacesetter y

Nice, its great to hear that it wasnt too difficult. I shoud have my pacesetter headers and Y this week. I am very nervous about that y-pipe install. Any other tips on installing the pacesetters would be appreciated. Also anyone in Ga that feels like giving me a hand with the install. Ill buy you a case of beer!
