Bypassing power steering cooler. Is it safe?
I've had troubles for a while with my steering getting extremely hard after driving for a while. It turns out that somehow my cooler has sprung a leak and has been letting antifreeze get into the power steering system. I bypassed the cooler to get me home but I need to know if I can continue to drive the car like this. I think I've completely flushed the system of all the bad fluid but I did hear the pump starting to make noise after I'd driven for about a half hour. Will I need another cooler?
Some cars didn't even come with a cooler, so I'd say you'd be fine. If you want, you can do what I did, and mount a small air cooled one in front of the radiator. No more coolant worries w/ that mod
Good luck, and don't worry.
