Default Shorty Header Questions (With posting rules)

I may be able to get some used shortie headers for a good price. I am not sure if I should get them. Now please there is a negative chance of me getting long tubes and mid-legnth headers so don't even waste my time by posting "get longtubes".

Here are my questions

1) I have a 98, so it has the crappy manifolds. How much of a gain will I see with Hooker Shortie Headers with my current mods? Please be honest with numbers and only use numbers and not you will gain almost nothing. I also am not interested in getting 00-02 Manifolds.

2) How much should I pay for a set of used Hooker Shorties uncoated?

3) Please keep question number one in mind if you answer.

4) I did a search, all I came up with was people arguing and saying "people who get shorties are idiots" etc.

5) There is little chance I will get a Cam for this car.

Thanks all!

Well,

1) I have a 98, so it has the crappy manifolds. How much of a gain will I see with Hooker Shortie Headers with my current mods? Please be honest with numbers and only use numbers and not you will gain almost nothing. I also am not interested in getting 00-02 Manifolds.

Around ~10-12 rwhp stock, over 20 easily with mods

2) How much should I pay for a set of used Hooker Shorties uncoated?

Whatever the seller is asking.

3) Please keep question number one in mind if you answer.

Will do.

4) I did a search, all I came up with was people arguing and saying "people who get shorties are idiots" etc.

Anyone who sais anyone is an idiot is an idiot, that's what was written in my high school Geometry front cover and I believe anything written in a book for the learnad.

5) There is little chance I will get a Cam for this car.

Thanks for sharing.

Oh btw, I have a set for sale.
Seriously though, for the money it's a decent bang for the buck for 1st or 2nd year ls1s, and fwiw they don't add the NVH of LT's, keep you 100% smog legal, and have documented H/C numbers of just under 400 rwhp average, more with crazy cams that have no low and off-idle tq. Again, fwiw good luck. Hope to see you soon.

Don't waste your money on shorty headers. You would be better off saving your money because you won't notice a power difference. Shorties SUCK!

Don't worry about it Glove..... It must be a knee-jerk reaction.

Look at it this way.... You KNOW that you're not going with mid's or LT's. You KNOW that your stock manifolds suck ***. You KNOW that the shorties will be a huge improvement. You KNOW you're going to buy them anyway. So howabout you jet get em in, and let us know how it went. Oh, and if you could get a before and after dyno, I think it would help cure some of the "shorties are evil" crowd. Good Luck to you. I'm sure you'll love them.

Shorties are lighter, but then again they are a header so underhood temps will go up a bit. I'd definitely get either stainless ( if possible ) or coated...preferably stainless. Uncoated headers will rust pretty easily and painted headers flake 3.8 seconds after you start the car.

Oh, and LT's rule, shorties suck and you're an idiot...J/K

Yes it is because of NJ. I saw a mobile inspection station the other day. No amount of horsepower is worth getting my car impounded or me getting fined a grand.

True they are ligther. I got a set of JBA's ceramic coated for next to nothing and did notice a slight power gain...... but the weight difference was insane.. it was close to the set of JBA's weighed as much as one side stock manifold.... well maybe not exactly but you know....
*reasons I did shorties... looks (ceramic coating), SMOG, price, and ground clearance (sportlines)*

I truly think NJ's emmisions laws are worse than Cali. We even have a Gestapo style judicial system for people who pass cars that shouldn't be passed. The cops don't care about the noise, but the emmisions people do. One day they are rumored to start parking them in front of Engishtown and atco...........................

I haven't made an offer on one, but one person wants 200. I don't think I will pay 200 for uncoated shorties, though.

When NJ isn't involved the the 49 state legal crowd anymore, come talk to us in Cali.

From my readings, 10rwhp and matching torque would be a good place to set your guess. You may do a little better than that, but who knows.....

I have JBA's and look at my sig they make great power and whoever said they won't make over 400 without a large cam is incorrect. My cam is only a 222/224 and with a full pull and the cutout open I will probibly put down 435 rwhp!
