Problem with trip meter! Help!

Problem with trip meter! Help! As I posted in another thread, I recently had a motor installed. Prior to the install the trip set worked flawlessly. Now after the install, everytime I turn the ignition off the trip resets itself to zero regardless of the mileage I have traveled. Good there be a bad memory wire problem or something? Any help is appreciated.

Update, battery was low. Had it charged and then had the alternator checked to be on the safe side and I still get the same problem. It doesn't occur when you turn the key off the ignition, it still holds then, but when you turn forward and actually start up the car it clears itself.
