Alright, well Hedman headers peaked my interest due to the VERY low price. They were $210. They are a long tube header with 1 5/8" to 1 3/4 step. They have 3" collectors with ball flanges.

The headers come with ball flanges to attach to your own y-pipe, if you don't buy thier y-pipe. They also come with new gaskets.

For the $210 price, they come in a black paint, typical poor paint job (just burns off anyways like all headers that are painted). They also offer a coated set for $420.

The flanges are a little thin. They are .320 inches thick, not that bad.

The 1 5/8 inch OD tubes aren't really that bad, when you consider that LS6 exhaust ports are 1.55" wide at thier widest point. So, if you are not going to do heads, these should be great. They step to 1 3/4" after about 8" of 1 5/8" tube.

The only issue I have with the headers, is they put the o2 bungs on the out side, like the hookers. I would rather have them on the inner side.

I also ordered the y-pipe that they make for the headers. Its cost was nice too, at only $110.00. It is a very nice 3" y-pipe. It is also nice in that it is a one piece design. It has 2 flatened spots for extra clearence.

The merge on the y-pipe is very good. It is actually merged together not but slpiced like the other low cost headers.

The only issue that I don't like about the y-pipe is that the outlet necks down to the factory 2 3/4" ish diameter. I can see why they did this, but don't like it too much. On that note, Any exhaust shop can re expand the pipe to 3" no problem. Its actually 3" after the merge, then necks down.

Any way, here are some pictures. As of this time I have not installed them yet, so I can't comment on fitment.

 

Not bad, some believe that on a 'stock internals' motor that a 1 5/8 (or in this case a 1 5/8 - 1 3/4) long tube might be the way to go.

TTT, the headers look good. I too am wondering about the y-pipe as well. I wonder what is better for a head/cammed car, 1 5/8 -> 1 3/4 or 1 3/4 -> 1 7/8 (Edlebrock stepped header).

Ok, here is the Official word. I am gonna lay it out on the line, IF you are not going to go with a set of ported heads, GO BUY THESE HEADERS. I got them installed this weekend. They fit like a freaking glove. The y-pipe is PERFECT, the headers fit nice and close to floorboard, I would probly recomend a poly motor mount. I always run poly motor mounts so....

But just to recap, these headers come with:
Header left/right
Header bolts
Header gaskets
Air/Egr provisions
Air/Egr block off plates
Air/Egr gaskets
Blots/nuts for the Air/Egr fittings
Bolts/nuts for the collectors
Flanges (if you run your own y-pipe)

Man, for a bolt-ons/Cam car these are the headers to get.

What cat back are you running? Also if you don't have the Hedman cat back, did the y hook up to your cat back easily?

Very interesting info. I might look into these. I plan to stay bolt on so these might be good for me. I would like to see a few pics showing the ground clearance first though. Would also be interested in some dyno numbers or track results.

I'll try to get some ground clearance pictures in the morning. I can tell you that the factory cross member fit with out any issue, that says that its pretty tight fitting to the floor.

As far as performance increases, I don't have any before after data. When I put the headers on, I changed too many other things to really tell. But, I have to say that the combination is working VERY well.

I ran the car two weeks ago and with 165,000 miles on the clock it clicked of a 13.762 @ 101mph. This week I changed out the motor for a new bone stock 6.0L LQ4, with a Yank converter, MTI Power Induction Lid, and the headers. Yesterday I ran a 12.39 @ 108.2mph!

The cat back system I am running right now consists of a STOCK intermediate pipe and a very quiet Dynomax single exit 3" muffler. The Y-pipe is a perfect match for the stock intermediate pipe and required NO modifications to mate up with the stock I-pipe, it was the perfect length/diameter. I do not have a cut out right now, but I am planning a QTP electric cutout as I have one sitting in my garage.

So, its just too hard to say what exactly I got out of them.

Sounds nice for the price and to think just 2 years ago Hookers were the "cheap" headers.

I like the look of the exhaust system too. Is that the same y-pipe just welded up to the cat-back? The chrome square tips are sweet.

 

Ryan what's the stock compression on the 6.0?? I have one and interested in throwing it in my Z with a T-Rex, milling the heads 50 thousands, and flycutting the stock pistons.

 

Ryan can you tell me compression on an 03 6.0 liter, and also what is the h.p. rating???
