can't put on smooth bellows [SLP] because..

can't put on smooth bellows [SLP] because.. my damn SLP lid won't slid off the MAF!! 
.. it's so damn stuck on it.. I tried using a screwdriver.. and it's almost like the lid melted and got stuck on!! grrrr
now I can't install the smooth bellows because I can't put the second half on and the first one [the part that goes between the MAF and TB] is an inch too short on the lower half argh!!!!
Any ideas on how to get the lid off w/o breaking it ? lol.. not doing that for a bellow.. If there's no easy way, I'll just goto Home Depot and get a larger tube to use so, that way, I won't need to get the lid off...
