o2's go bad with open exhaust?

o2's go bad with open exhaust? I run my car open cutout 98% of the time. And now hearing rumors of this being a bad idea on the sensors. I can say im having some slight issues in the lower RPM's.. My quesion is why would open exhuast ruin the sensor?
