Default Valve Cover fitting

My "new" long block driver's side valve cover has two vacuum hose fittings at the top of the valve cover. These are I presume for a pcv-type system since they are baffled on the inside. Not sure why there are two on this side and one large one on the pass side and why the pass side can't suffice. Anyway, these fittings are just pressed in and can be removed? Can I just twist and pull to tremove them? And does someone make a blank-off fitting for the resulting holes?

Hmmm...on my 2001, the driver's side has a large grommeted hole in the rear that is for the PCV system and my passenger side cover has 2 bent tubes at the top...the rear is for PCV and the front is for the fresh air line that connects to the throttlebody. The tubes can be capped off with vacuum caps and the large grommet can be pluged with GM part # 12568011

That's interesting - looks like the valve covers may be switched then. Why does the tb need "fresh air" from the valve cover?

I believe it's the other way around...maybe the experts will chime in, but I believe the fresh air is drawn from the incoming air stream and is used for crankcase ventilation...

Ok, that makes sense, there has to be an external source (vent) or the pcv system would be under a vacuum.
