Alternators What would be the results of putting an alternator on that is too large or too small. a LS1 recently had an aftermarket alternator put on and wqhile they were pulling out of a shop the vehicle caught on fire. has anybody had problems with this before or is anybody knwledgable on what the affects of inproper or different sized alternators are?
Sounds liked someone screwed up. I have had a ohio generator 200A on my car since I first purchased it. The stereo system necessitated it bc I kept killing stock alternators. I have 98,200 miles on my 01 that I purchased in november of 00 and the ohio alternator has been on ther for 97 ,000 of those miles without ever having any charging system problems. Just upgrade the wire from the battery to the alternator and put in a good brand gel cell like an optima etc and you will be just fine. Your car will not burn up.
