Default Another Weiand vs. LS6 Intake Thread

Pretty soon I will be getting an LS6 or a Weiand intake manifold along with some Stage II ported heads. Right now, I have someone who is selling his new Weiand intake for $250 without gaskets or anything else, just the intake. One reason I would want the Weiand is to be able to port match the intake to the ported heads. Will this even be necessary?

Thanks for any input.

I was in the same place as you a while back. Mike Norris from Norris Motorsports and Trevor from TSP did not recommend the Weiand intake because of the heat soak.

If port matching is your game, you can port match an LS6 intake. Pm Silverghost.

I heard heat soak is only a thing to worry about if you are running large cube race motors. My car is all street, also, it never gets above 180 degrees, even in traffic.

I would stay away from it because of bad sealing to the heads. A GTO had one at a dyno day a while back and he had to use a ton of silcone to aviod leaks.

Think about this, why would the guy be selling his intake for 250 dollars, more than likely he found out the hard way that it sucked. I don't think you would pick up much power if any from port matching the intake to the heads. The ls6 will deff get the job done. I say either go with a ls6 or FAST.

I currently have the weiand and it does get pretty hot. During my dyno testing it stayed pretty regular though, yet i placed 2 bags of ice on it between each dyno with the hood open and a fan blowing on it. Yet the dynos were only about 5 minutes apart.

IMO: It could probably hurt your performance about 5 - 10 rwhp (compared to ls6 intake) if you are doing regular daily driving, yet if kept up properly at at track, I dont think it would hurt you that much.

After saying all that: the only reason i got the weiand is b/c i plan on going pretty heavy later on such as FI or stroker w/ direct nitrous and i also like the looks.
