Default TB Porting

Well I just bought a set of Pacesetters and TSP y-pipe for my car and figure I will port the tb while I am working on the car.

What tips and suggestions would you have for someone wanting to do this for the first time?

I have searched and couldn't find exactly what I wanted.

Someone posted a link to a really good write up on this a couple of weeks ago. Try searching the topic and you will probably find it.

I think I may have that writeup actually. I will check and see.

Is there any part of the tb to be extremely careful around, you know anything easily messed up?
Is it worth it to do the epoxy mod?

Before you take the TB apart take a marker and trace were the blade is at rest and work from that line back-that way you will not disturb the clearance that is required for the blade to seal off in the throat of the TB. There is no gain to be had to do any work behind the blade. The epoxy mod is up to you if you want to do it or not.

I always do the epoxy. Also, you can check the outside of the throttle body to figure out the thin spots in the casting, but if you're porting evenly and don't gouge it, you should be fine.

Thanks guys, I will keep those things in mind. I defintely won't be gouging it. I will be taking my time and work it evenly.

So I don't need to work on anything on the backside of the blade?

I started the porting and it is really slow go. What kind of attachment for the Dremel or an air grinder is the best for the grinding down of the lip?

Also what is the best epoxy to use to fill the hole? And how do you ensure that it still will get the air up there that it needs?

Thanks guys

Some people, like myself, do not even fill em. Use a 1/2 carbide single cut burr for taking the lip out. That is what I use.

A company named Standard Abrasives makes some really nice kits to do a great job on porting /polishing. You'll be quite pleased with the results.

Either one . The kits I bought have the Holder bits for the various rolls and polishing wheels . They have a carb polishing kit that would be just the ticket. The air die grinder would do a better and quicker job than the dremel.

Use a 1/4 die grinder for the porting and polishing. The dremel is good for touch up and cutting wheel use like the end of the bolts and taking the half shaft out.
