Default Header Install Help???

Hello,
I just got my QTP headers and the passanger side went it quite easy, but I am having trouble getting the drivers side in. I have taken off the steering linkage and valvecover and still dont have the room to slide it down. I can only get the car up off the ground about 13". Does anyone have any ideas of how I can get the header to go in???
Thanks

I think the car height might be your problem, but for me I had to get the passenger side up higher to get my headers in. You might also want to try grinding or cutting off the block tab. Here are the instructions I used. You also should look at JRP's bolt-on FAQs, I think he has an install guide too.

From JRP's link it says to raise the car atleast 15" and take them up through the bottom. Read the sticky.

While I don't have qtps, (i have jet-hots) after getting my car 19in off the ground it made things easy. I think that is your main problem.

Or you could just drop the motor

How about would I go getting the car that high off the ground?? Is it safe to just jack up the one side 19 or so inches??? If not would it be okay to say jack up the passanger side say 13 or so inches and then jack up the other drivers side to the 19??? I am just afraid of breaking or twisting something I shouldnt.....

Ya, your car is not high enough to fit them in.

I had to get the front end of the car (front facia) >30 inches off the ground. Used a series of bricks, blocks, and jackstands....

You need to jack up the back too. It would be unsafe to lift one side 19in. I raised and lowered mine kind of in stages, just be careful, and make sure the car is secure before getting under it. Car falling off of jacks would suck, esp. from that height, but is better than falling on you .

I have my car up 22' and they slid right in. I did not have to remove anything else, not even the plugs or oil filter. It fits in forward of the K-member support, not back by the oil filter. You need the car higher. You must be carefull!!!

Buy or borrow some very large jack stands. I would NOT jack up half of the car much higher than the other side or front to rear. You do not want it coming down on you, Not worth it!!

Jack it up in increments and take your time.

Good luck and be SAFE!!

Yep lift it 19inches or it isnt going to go. And I had to dent my firewall in a little, Think some have to grind the block.

I don't know about you but I would not get under a car that was jacked up 19" only on one end. Maybe just paranoid?? That just seems to unstable. Better safe than sorry.

Pull the oil plug and the oil filter and get the car as high as you can. Call us if you need more assistance. We just did an install for GMHTP mag and the took 30 secs to put the driver side in.

A couple thing I could think of would be that, the car would not sit evenly on the jack, which would apply a lateral force, so it would be dangerous as any movement of the car forward and back. Also, your back bumper might hit if you did that (not sure on that though), and mainly, it just makes things a lot easier to have both sides jacked up.

Other than being unsafe would it hurt anything to just jack up the back? I would deff put chokes behind the back tires...

I didn't have to do this. The header must be staight up & down and just forward of the oil drain plug. I did this over & over trying different methods to see how it would fit, I found this to be the only way. I did not remove anything other than the stock exhaust. Of course this is on a 2001 Z28, maybe there are differences in years/models?
