Failed Emissions, Now What I didnt know where to post this so i figure i would post this here. I took my car for emissions, and obviously i failed, but heres what they said was wrong with the code number. Code number (P0404) EGR Control Circuit Range/Performance, and the other one is (P0420) Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1. I know the one is most likely a bad cat. Heres the thing i wanna put longtubes on, so is it even worth putting a new cat on or no? I dont really wanna run cats, so why spend the money if i dont need them. Also how the hell do i fix the EGR whatever it is? thanks everyone
I'm from Chicago. You're in Cook County right? (I can't remember) If so, Do they still do the tail pipe sniffer or just an OBDII check. For just an OBDII check you could probably get O2 sims to cure that prob. and could use them when you get long tubes and ORY. As far as the EGR, I don't know.
You can also get o2 sims to help with the post cat o2 readings, I took my open headers 408 w/ TREX to the emissions guy and it passed with flying colors.

That 0420 code is for a bad cat. If you're under the warranty year/mileage (8 year / 80,000 miles) the dealer will replace it. I had the same thing happen, and the dealer hooked it up, no questions asked. I would go ahead and get a new cat from the dealer even if you plan on using an ORY later on, just so you'll have it if you ever have to go back to stock.
