That is the tunnel brace, you don't reuse it because it won't fit. Most people just toss it...

Yeah the tunnel brace, and the bracket that hangs down off the transmission (at least on my a4, don't know about m6) I took off.

And for tips on install . . . who is doing it (you or a shop) and where (garage or lift)? I did mine in the garage, couple hours of cursing and cut hands, I got it on there. Doing it without a lift is hard or at least is was for me, it took two people pulling on it to get it on. And it still bangs on the driver side

Good luck.

Right now I am doing it myself with no lift but, I am thinking about just snugging stuff up enough to get me to a muffler shop and have them do it so I wont get any rattles or have any leaks. What do you guys think?? Is it worth payin the 100$ to have it done professionally?

That would be a good plan to in my opinion. Just make sure it is reputable shop, and/or has worked on an f-body before if possible. I mean every fit on every car is going to be slightly different, so you will just have to see how it turns out.

Not many people complain about clearance issues with QTP's or Kooks once you get them bolted up I doubt you'll have any leaks or banging. I did mine by myself with no lift, took a little while, but it's not that hard, just get your car as far up in the air as you can. Good luck. As far as the tunnel brace I chucked mine too, I've yet to find one that fits with the giant merge collector.

I would like to get something to replace mine, I tossed it as well after my QTP header and Y pipe install.
I wanted to put something in it's place because I was sort of using that piece of tin for whatever little structural support/bracing it provided and also as a half assed driveshaft loop.

I just got my QTP Y in and the collector is huge. I hope this will fit with the Spohn TA.

I read that some of you have had banging from the y-pipe. I installed a Poly motor mount on the drivers side only and it fixed the problem for me. I did not have QTP's at the time though. I noticed a little more agressive shake from the engine but nothing like when you have the poly mounts on both sides.

Drk- that y is gonna be abitch with the spohn. I had to make a set of shims to lower the tq arm mount, which now bottoms out occasionally, to get the merge collector in. The y itself, after assmebled, is about a foot too long to fit where it needs to. If I were you if you got a catted y, or the cutout Y, I'd go to a exhaust shop in your area that has a good rep, hand them the cutouts or cats and the merge collector, and tell them you have some scraps of pipe if they can use them, and have them fab it to the car. I wish I had done that... then maybe I wouldn't have lost about 3.4 of an inch of clearance because of the added shims between my slp frams connectors and the tq arm mount.

JL ws-6, do you have the tranny mounted TQ arm or the body mounted one. I've heard there are no clearance issues with the tranny mount one. Since this is the TQ arm I plan on getting I would like to know for sure. And if anyone has found an aftermarket tunnel brace that works with this set-up I would like to hear about it.

I have the chassis mount unit, not the tailshaft mount unit. When I first purchased my car and climbed under it to inspect, I was blown away that GM would even mount a suspension mpart as critical as a tq arm to the tailshaft of the tranny

That is so bad for so many different reasons that I don't even know where to start. the Spohn tq arm was one of the first things that I did to my car, and I would never go back to a tranny mounted unit. All the stress taht is of the tranny, the tranny mount, motor mounts, etc. etc. has got to help, not to mention the amount of pwer that is no longer being absorbed. There probably is no clearance problems with a tailshaft moutned unit, but if you are gonna go with an aftermarket torque arm, go for one that gets the mount off the tranny. There's a few options out there for this, spohn, Bmr makes one, and so does Alston. I'd seriously reccommend one of this style... if you are planning on making enough power/having enough traction to warrant an aftermarket torque arm.

I have a set of stg 2.5 5.3's on the way now with a F13 in my future so I hope I'll make the power to warrant it I would really like to go with a chassis mount torque arm, I was just under the impression that none of them would work with the QTP y-pipe I completely agree with you on the torque arm, I just didn't want to deal with the clearance issues.
