Default have a Hole in my header!

Took the white car out today and was messing around on the street and all of a sudden it starts making this weird noise. I thought maybe the header came loose from the block. it made the car sound like a vw bug lol. it was puttering.

i had all 3 cutouts open and took off pretty hard from a stop when it happened. what would make this happen? The hole is where the egr pipe goes into the header. here is 2 pics to compare. driver side and pass.

WTF! ? What kinda headers are those? Are you running really lean?
I would think you'd have other damage too if that was the case.

shitty weld. Hot cold hot cold/expand contract bla bla bla.

That sux Man. Pull it off n have it welded up.

Depending on how long you have had them you may be able to get some kind of warranty replacement. But I would not count on it.

Ok, I know this is off topic but I just gotta ask...... 3 cutouts? I don't get it. If you've got one at each header collector open (assuming), then why would you need a 3rd one open?

This has happened quite a few times. It happened to me about 4 months ago. I just pulled the header, and had it welded up, and re-installed. Looking back on it, if you had a experienced welder, you could probably do it while the header was still on the car. No big deal, just a royal PITA. Good luck with it!

I had a set of hooker supercomps that were jet hot coated and the same thing happend to them. They were not ls1 headers, but had identical problems. I bought them from summit and they replaced them for me for the cost of shipping them back to them. Sucks that such a nice header is built so poorly.

I don't think it's a build quality issue, I think it's just a matter of the heat expansion of the primaries causing them to expand and contract over time. That takes a toll and gives a lot of strees on those small welds. I am very happy with the quality of the hooker lt's on my car. The exact same thing I have personally seen happen to the "Almighty" LG Stainless Steel long tube headers for the corvette. It happens, and becaust of this, when i do get a new set of headers someday, I'll be getting the "race-ready" headers. They look better anyways!
