Default BBK Intake

Does anyone have any real info on the release of this intake? At this point does anyone even care? Still just curious about some dyno numbers.

I doubt anyone has them- I don't think they're shipping yet.

Yeah I knew that werent shipping but was curious if any shops had word or maybe had been graced with prototypes. The power sounds good from the BBK rep. I spoke to back in December. Just the whole issue of it being aluminum still doesnt evade the heat soak problem like the weiand has.

I was reading a few posts about heatsoak, I forgot who it was, but their theory was that the air getting sucked in dosent have the time to get soaked because of its rapid movement. Similiar to moving your finger through a candle flame fast. On the other hand, idling in traffic, etc is more prone to getting heat soaked cause the air within the intake is sitting there, moving slowly and then having the opportunity to get heat soaked.

Either way, nothing that nitrous cant fix

I have a bad feeling about that. Delays usually mean there is something severely poopie about the product. It is very likely that it will not live up to the hype.

Yep, sounds like bad news. Check out this post from last September- they were gonna do some 'additional' testing (must have been a tough test):

This is the last update that BBK released (on their web site) regarding the new SSi intake (http://www.bbkperformance.com/news.shtml):

No news is good news?

It probably is...in the same way that the FAST is. You have to figure, they are comparing the LS6 intake with stock throttle body to theirs with the 80mm TB...I suspect we are in for a disappointment.

Good thing about aluminum is if ya have a nitrous backfire it would probly be pretty hard to blow it up.... Thats the only reason id buy one myself.

but the FAST has a blowout disc as an option for just such a thing, and way too much boost (32lbs i think)

actually i wouldnt worry about it being delayed.. i went to BBK in Corona CA, and i spoke with a rep about the new TPI intake that they are making too.. seems that they have started all new products for Mustang, Camaro, ect and basically all years of Fuel injection for each line.. they are understaffed and i think a little over their heads with all these new products that all have a relatively close release date. they pushed back the TPI intake as well.

Well I understand your logic, but I know people first hand that HAD the weiand intake. When the motor was cool they were +10whp over the stock intake. When the engine had time to get hot after a few pulls on the dyno they were -10whp. So I seem to think there is something to heat soak.

The price of the intake + TB is ~$800. I don't know if I could justify that price over the LS6 I already have. If my car was older and had a LS1 intake, then maybe.

I have also talked to the BBK people and they have been really busy making other products on their CNC machine, and they also moved their machining plant recently. I heard we should hear results soon.

I noticed in the Summit catalog it says it is "based on" the LS6 or ZO6 manifold. I'm wondering if this will even be worth the money at all over an LS6 manifold.
