Default Fast Intake Port Thread (about casting flash)

Hey guys, I just got a 90mm fast and have read some threads about what people call the casting flash on the lower area of the port. Do you think this is just that, casting flash, or do you think it is there for other reasons.

I mean, it is at the lower part of the port which is where airflow is the slowest. Could it be there to increase velocity in this area. You will also notice that it is pointed in the proper direction. I wouldn't think casting flash would coincidentally go in the same direction as the air flow through the intake.

Lets here some thoughts.

I wondered the same thing. I thought surely all the R&D that went into this product this had to serve a purpose so I called FAST. I talked to a couple different people. The conclusion was that it does not serve a purpose. I ported it out on mine. Used the little round sanding drum.

I would think since the LSX intake is portable, it would have no purpose since you would remove it anyway when you port match for heads..my .02

This "casting flash" does not intersect the head port. It is approximately 1" ahead of where the intake meats the intake port of the head. even if you open up the port to match your heads it still may serve a purpose, or it may not. My thoughts are this. If you have a small port head with a small cam and like low speed torque then leave it in. If you are going to run max rpm, max power, and care only about these things then take it out. Either taking it out or leaving it in won't account for much difference I would think.

Didn't realize you could not port 1 inch up into the tract, maybe it does have a purpose, probably just need to call FAST and get a direct answer...

You can port there (1" up into the port of the intake) and you should, it just may add some velocity with leaving the casting flash in there. Consider that the highest air flow requirement will be at the roof of the port of the intake and the head and the lowes air flow requirement will be at the floor. Because the speed is low throughout there a small neck down may help to increase the speed/velocity. I'm going to call fast as well and ask before I take it out.
