Default Granetelli MAF impressions ?

Hey all, i just recently got my 99 ss and i saw it already has some mods on it. It has a red granetelli maf and hooker cat back exhaust system. Does anyone have this maf in their car, if so did you feel any difference, dyno numbers ? Someone told me these mafs make a lil more power by running the car leaner.

I have a GMS MAF and I just added it to my car this week. Its by far the most noticeable mod that I have done so far to my car. I can really feel a huge difference after the install. Even though I havent done much to the car..the MAF has been the best so far.

You won't be able to tell the difference in about 2 weeks. The computer will get used to the MAF and it will be a pointless mod. The stock MAF's are NOT restricitive until you hit more than about 400 hp.

I don't know how you could see the MAF being the best mod out of the cutouts, CAI etc.

I've heard nothing but bad things about the SLP and GMS MAF. When I had to buy a new MAF for my car I went with a stock piece. People complain of tuning issues and idle problems with the aftermarket ones. Like blind said the stockers are not restrictive unless you're making big HP.

Granatelli MAF is good, you just gotta get it calibrated properly. http://allmod.net/hpt

Believe it or not aftermarket/modded MAF units flow 20-40% more air on the LS1s. Being tuned rich from the factory, this leans you out a good deal and makes a moderate amount of top end power for such a small mod. Proabably worth around 5 horses +/- a few. That would make this mod pretty similar to a catback or lid. As far as feeling it in the seat of your pants? Doubt it, but you may feel better throttle response.

With that said, I personally would not go out and buy a GMS MAF since the stock MAF is good for up to 4-500 horses. I'd descreen mine and port and polish it for free. Oh wait, I did do that! And as redhardsupra said, any sort of MAF mod will require calibration in order to sustain proper fueling functions.
