Kooks header problem
Kooks header problem O.k. I posted this in ls1gto, but I would like to expand to your input also. I have an 04 gto. First let me say that this isn't my first dance with a header installs. Done quite a few in the past. Anyway, the problem is I can only install 1 end bolt in the header flange. Either the front one or the rear one but not both. Strangely though, no matter which end I start with the other 5 bolts will fit, just not the last 6th end bolt. At first I thought the holes may be improperly drilled but if that was the case,whichever one was drilled wrong, would cause all the bolts to be outta line. Does it sound like maybe the holes on the end just weren't drilled large enough?? Any input would be appreciated. I just plan on ovesizing the front hole at this point. OH, did you guys who purchased kooks also have a buch of metal shavings in your pipe?
From reading that I would try, if you havent already, leaving those end bolts for very last to pin point the problem and take it from there with the drilling.
How much free space is in those center holes to make it do this?? Seems like only one of the ends should work.

kooks header problem I have installed two sets of headers from Kooks on my 1998 Vette. I had the same problem. All I did was take a good round file and elongate the holes on the ends.....it doesn't take much....but you do need to do this with the header outside the car....much easier.
As far as shavings....mine were loaded. I cleaned them in a parts washer...you can also get some degresser spray it in the tubes and hose it out rear good. Otherwise Kooks headers are a quaility piece.

Well, I pulled the header back out, and enlarged the end hole and all is now well. Thanks again for the input.!! Heres a pic of the bolt that wouldn't line up.

Wow, so that's why i was having so much trouble getting those bolts in. I thought I had cross threaded them... but if it doesn't leak, I'm gonna leave it ghetto looking (just finished the install tonight)
Im haveing the same problem with my Pacesetter longtubes, on the drivers side 3 bolts will not go in right, the other went in fine with no prob. Geus ill have to do some fileing
