I'm on my second SLP lid (different car) and I bought this one because the last one fit great. I have a K&N and the gasket fits fine with the lid. No hood rub at all. Also, the SLP kid has the provision for the AIR tube on '00+ cars.

I also have the SLP lid. Usually it doesn't fit because of USER ERROR. The front lip tucks in, that's where I got confused. If installed correctly it fits perfectly and it is very sturdy.

I too have an slp lid and it fits great. If the front lip isn't tucked it it will not fit correctly. I have never had a hood rubbing issue. I also have the slp smooth bellow and it is a quality piece.

Overall, which would be the best bang for the buck along with quality, SLP or MTI lid? I am considering buying one very soon. Also, are they easy to install??

Lids are all basically the same... I'd just pick whichever one is most cost-effective for you.

And yes, very easy to install... about on par with installing a game in your X-Box.

I have a question...

Has anyone ever removed the ribs on the inside of the stock lid and done a flow/dyno test? Does anyone think it did any good?

Running the SLP lid here with no problems. I didn't put a new gasket for the K&N on the lid and it seals fine. When you press up on the filter from underneath (FRA), it doesn't move at all.

I took mine to the GM dealership for an oil change one time, and they "checked" my air filter (even though I had a K&N sticker there), and those retards could not even put my lid back on right. All the tabs in BACK were out. What a bunch of idiots. Another reason why I don't trust mechanics.

I bought a SLP lid two weeks ago for my '01, fits great, no it did not come with any special seal, i do have a K&N also, in GMHTP test the SLP lid performed as well as MTI did on the drag strip test, but SLP did MUCH better on the dyno, read the test again

SLP lid, no issues whatsoever. Fits great. Only thing I had to do was call K&N, and they sent me another seal, the first seal was on the stock lid.

About removing the fins from the stock lid, you still have the huge air chambers after the lid.

Maybe you should install it correctly. The lip needs to be tucked.

I love my SLP lid, I once had a problem with the lid rubbing once due to the hood Height was not ajusted properly. Reajusted it, nows all fine.

Personally I think my SLP lid fits great, you can see it on my site below. I knnow SLP has some porr products, but IMO the lid is not one of them. This thing is pretty stout from what I can tell.

Is the "aftermarket" SLP lid the same exact lid that came on the 345 hp optioned cars?

No, that lid is a Blackwing lid. If it were not so friggin expensive, I would have bought one for testing. It appears to flow just about the same as the aftermarket one, but there are a few differences.
1) It appears to be just as sturdy as the stock lid, which is nice.
2) The hole going towards the MAF is shaped like an oval, just like the regular stock lid. I am quite positive this is per GMs requirement that the lid was to work properly with the stock MAF (not throw all the trims off like the aftermarket lid). I would recommend the Blackwing lid over a regular SLP lid if you are worried about fueling issues. I think it would be easier to tune too.
