Anyone welded cats to MAC or Pacesetter ORY?

Anyone welded cats to MAC or Pacesetter ORY? I'm still considering my options with headers.
I'm considering going for headers and an cat-less Y (mostly due to cost) to start with, but if the noise and/or smell is too much I'd spring for the cats.
I'm thinking it would be pretty easy; buy 2 carsound cats ($100 or less for both), just measure, cut a couple pieces of pipe out, slip the cats into place and weld/clamp everything up. Sounds easy enough to me..........or am I missing something?
Does it sound reasonable or should I just wait a little longer to save up and get the TSP catted Y?
