Default Water Pump leaking

I think my water pump is shot. When I got home yesterday it was leaking coolant. I got under the car but couldn't figure out where it's coming from. All the gaskets on the block and thermostat housing is dry. Is there a weep hole under this area I can't see ?

The car only has 35k miles on it, anyone else have this happen so soon?
How hard is it to replace ? Any recomendations on what pump to replace with ? Should I stick with a GM pump or
is it ok to use something from NAPA?
anyone have the GM part number handy ?

thanks

Yes there is a weep hole on the bottom side of the pump.

Looks like you need a new one.

SDPC should be able to get you a new one.

I was leaking coolant also and couldnt figure out where it as coming from. It turned out to be one of the gaskets between the pump and the block had broken apart. The gasket only had 45k miles on it.

Agreed, it is probably the weep hole. I just did 2 water pump replacements (not on LS1s), and both were leaking at the weep hole. I used a NAPA pump, they are now gauranteed for life. No problems as of yet. I would not hesitate to use a GM pump either. Hope that helps.

thanks for the help & advice. I started the car up again the other day and it is dripping straight down from that area the arrow is pointing to.
I'll give the pump from NAPA a try for $160, the GM pump is a little pricey.

thanks again

Why not go straight to an electric water pump? They do cost a lot, but it's just a thought.

I thought about it but I can't justify spending that much right now on a water pump. I want to get a converter and a cam in the car so I'd rathar see the $ go towards those.
I picked up the NAPA pump ($160) and installed it on sat. The gaskets that came with it were the exact the same metal ones as oem on my 2001. Install only took about 1-1/2 hrs and was pretty damn painless. It looks like the gasket on the pass side, on the pump side not the block, may have been the culprit.
