Default How does a QTP Cutout work?

More specifically the switch. The site says its a toggle, so wouldnt that mean its eitehr a. open or b. closed? The site says you can run it open, closed, or anywhere inbetween. Im curious as to how you make it 'inbetween'. Im getting an LS1, and I think instead of getting a loudmouth, i'll get a quieter muffler and a cutout, so it can be really loud, or nice and quiet, and I have a Thunder Racing credit, and they sell the QTP CO. Thanks.

The cutout is powered by a small DC motor, and the switch basically tunrs the motor on (forward of backwards) and off. You can run the cutout totally closed, open, or anywhere in between. All you do is depress the switch until the cutout moves where you want it. Really though, you will likely have it either all open or all closed. Having it part way open doesn't really make it noticeably quieter compared to all the way open. Hope that helps.

It's a "momentary" switch - so when you take your finger off it stops the motor at whatever position it's in, and returns to the "center" position.

You have to stop it (let go of the switch) when it's open/closed - you'll be able to tell by the sound.

It'll make the motor die on you alot sooner. You can tell when it's all the way closed or open by the sound it makes.

Do they make them for 3" exhaust? I have seen 2 1/2" for sale. Not 3". If so, who sells it?

not to rag on QTP, they make awesome products, and electric cutouts are a fun to play with. but if i could do it all over again i wouldn't have gotten the cut-outs. they tend to leak and the motors like to work themselves lose. i've had to take them apart and tighten up the bolts inside twice now. plus the track almost always shuts me down when i try to run them open. i'm going to swap them for true duals.

Okay, here's a dumb newbie questions but if I don't ask I won't learn...1) How many are usually installed on say a T/A? Right now my system is stock but in the next week or 2 I'm going to be installing my Corsa cat-back. I am planning on getting long tubes and new Y (probably with low restricted cats - have no real need for an off-road plus if it helps with emissions a little that's a good enough excuse for me...anyway) sometime in the fall. 2) Should I wait until I get the new headers and Y or does it not matter if the cut-out is installed now and the headers and Y later?

Thanks man, any help is appreciated.

Usually its one, behind the cat, for sound purpose, and some performance. For an all out drag car or a car with true duals its usually 2, before cats.

There's a perfect spot on the I-pipe just under the pass. side rear seat. You also have a grommet right there to feed the cord into.
