Ticking Noise
Ticking Noise Hey guys, last week, I installed a set of pacesetter headers and off road y-pipe to my 2000 Trans Am.
I am getting a ticking sound out of the drivers side. The noise seems to be more prevelent when under the car, but is very noticeable when driving and sitting in traffic. When sitting at idle, you can still hear the ticking. The ticking seems to vary directly with rpm, the faster the motor is reving the faster the ticking occurs. At first I thought it was a exhaust leak, but after retorqueing header bolts, egr and air systems to proper specs and having 2 friends do the same, I still get the ticking. It still may be an exhaust leak, im not too sure.
At the same time, I seem to be losing oil. For the first time ever with this car, the oil light came on in the dash, and I had to add a whole quart of oil. I dont' know if this ticking and loss of oil is connected, but I don't see any oil in the driveway under the car at all.
I don't know if it matters that I have been running without o2 sims on the rear since the install, but those are supposed to arrive at my house today. Anyone have any idea what this ticking may be?
Also, I took a video of the ticking, its a pretty large file, and I don't have anywhere to host it, but if anyone knows how I may be able to get it up, that would be helpful. Thanks for the help in advance.

Hey, the ticking is normal, but do check your plugs. If you look at tools for listening to sound, they are long metal rods that will carry sound. The long tubes act the same way, each is a long tube that help echo the valvetrain sound. Wait until you have a good cam and the valves are slamming open and shut, THEN you have a tick! It sounds good though when you get used to it. Header wrap em and it litterally goes away.
Wow, didn't even realize that, I love this place, thanks for the help guys, im gonna check the plugs(what should I look for, ill have some friends check them too) and im going to make those gaskets for the air valves. Thanks guys!
