Have you tried calling hawk's and seeing if they'll install a 3" collector instead of a 2 1/2'??? That's the only place i think those headers would be insufficient.
i would think the 1 3/4 would be more of a restriction than the 2 1/2 collector.
i asked them, and they wont special order a 3" collector.

back to the size.... i have a bud with an outlaw street car, he picked up 17pd ft of torque going to a smaller collector.
he did give up a few HP.... but id rather have the torque to get me movin.
good luck.

This is wierd, I could swear Kooks has a 1 7/8 with a 3" collector! Hmmm, funny since I was going to order them last month too!
Anyway, I am using 2.5" TD w/ X Pipe, they seem to work very well, but cant compare them to 3" TD's yet. Will be getting new pipes in a couple months, maybe I will swap with the current engine in just for info sake.

kooks makes a header for 98-02 cars.
the headers in question are from stainless works, for ls1 82-92 model cars. i called to ask, and he wasnt even willing to call stainless works to see if they would custom make a set with a 3" collector.
confusion.
