Crack at collector: Repair or replace?
I don't think I'd buy any brand other than QTP's with the HVMC's... but that's kind of an expensive repair. Short of the EGR tube breaking off at the primary tube, the headers themselves still look good except for scrapes on the bottom and a bit of rust color where the primaries mate to the collectors.
Would the QTP's give me better ground clearance? Comments on their y-pipe?
The qtp's fit great, they tuck up great, I don't know if you could scrape them??
If you need the capacity, you can get the QTP y to fit good. You will never get the ground clearance out of a 3" y that you will out of a 2 1/2".
Also, if you go with cats, the qtp catted y puts the cat right at the brace in the floorboard. That is my lowest point.
My car is lowered 1" and I have 4" of clearance to the cat.
Good luck!!!
I've got the D/D cat-back, and am using a cat'ed y-pipe. The exhaust stinks bad enough with cats, much less without!
If they are steel they can rust from the inside out too.
It may be hard to tell the condition without taking one off and looking at it.
I would try to weld it first. If you start blowing holes in the metal it is rusting from the inside out. Then you need to replace them.
note, this only works if you can have the downtime for your car, as it takes about a week to get it recoated.
I have a "used" set of the same headers, mine is at least the 3rd car in central florida that they've been on, and other than the same problems, (EGR broke off, minor rust where they have scraped on the bottom. where is it cracked?
