Altenator bolt solution for short belt
On my BMW 557i conversion I used a 52.5 inch Dayco belt (results in tensioner being exactly in the middle of the range with stock pulleys) and deleted the power steering and idler pulley. I took the bottom altenator bolt cut it in the middle and added 1.5 inches of bolt shaft from another bolt. I then welded a grade 8 washer 1 and 1/8ths inches from the bottom of the head applied some blue loctite and re-inserted the bolt, Now only the bolt shaft goes under the belt and I have a solid altenator.

Damn fine creative thinking! I would try doing this myself, if I wasn't such a pansy and had to keep my power steering. I did the whole no power steering thing in an older mustang, and I swore I would never put my self through that again (or no power brakes).
