3" Catback vs. TD's
The discussion is about true duals.
Not tru-duals.
I have Hooker Londtubes ORY magnaflow cat-back a lid with a cam 226/226 578/578/ 114lsa and made 378hp /380tq and some of the cars I have seen with bigger cams and TD's are only making 380-390ish hp so If someone with a G5X3 cam and TD'S is in the 380-390 range where is the huge gain everyone talks about..... and as far as testing one againt the other true comparisons are hard to achieve since all dynos are not the same and conditions at the same dyno change run to run... I think in my opinion td's are not worth the hassle unless you go all the way out the back..

Here is the difference a Y-pipe can make (your results WILL vary):
And it was already mentioned that you don't have to buy a Y-pipe. If you compare true duals (even out the back) they are comparable in price to a Y-pipe and any of the expensive cat-backs.

There are combinations where either the duals or the Y-pipe setup could be cheaper.

Duals vs Hooker
Hughes, if you're worried about interior drone with true duals, just don't get the mainstream mufflers most people get like 12" Bullets and Twisters. Since you're going with a custom setup, I suggest 30" Sweet Thunders and dump that at the axle. The longer the muffler, the less noise, especially interior, and 30" Sweet Thunders should do the trick well. Plus you won't lose any more ground clearance than with a regular Bullet/Twister setup like mine. If this would still be too loud, you can always get some Dynatech cones and slip those in after the collectors. With the aftermarket the way it is nowdays, you can make 3" dumped true duals about as quiet as an average catback.
