Default Muffler & Gas Mileage

Hey, I just bought my Firebird Formula yesterday the previous owner took off everything after the Y-Pipe. People have told me that the fact that I dont have a muffler is confusing the engine computer causing it to dump more fuel resulting in less fuel efficiency. It sounds believable but I'm wondering if its true? . By the way I just ordered a new hooker catback system

Thanks guys!

BTW go take a look shes bone stock except the muffler but still beautiful

Well they are on crack. If anything, less restriction would help gas mileage.

Yea, maybe I am on crack, I think I am getting 28mpg on the highway, the new catback will probably rape that back down a few mpg...

That would be nice, I dont know if 28mpg is right, but its somewhere between 24 and 28 which is better than my 88 Cutlass V6 !

I love my new car!! I am addicted to V8s for life!

that 28mpg is about right. thats the beauty of these engines. Great power and still good mileage.
