Borla muffler ? for LTs, OR/Y....
I know some guys are using a XR1 muffler in the I pipe and running the exhaust through the cut out but my car is lowered and the XR1 will not fit under the floor pan.. What about the XR1 in place of the regular borla muffler? Would it be the same thing? way too quiet? I really like the borla setup and look but its just too quiet going through the muffler and too raspy going through the cutout, ,even with the smallest hole plate.. What are you guys doing for this besides switching to true duals or another catback?
Thanks in advance
Guys remember the old 5.0 mustangs with 2 chamber flowmasters, off road and going through full tail pipes, those cars sounded AWESOME all the way through the powerband and idle, why can't we get our F-body's to do the same..??
Even LS1 vettes with off road X pipes and corsa or borla catbacks sound 10x better then F-bodys when idling or accelerating at half throttle. WTF?
Hope this helps.

What do the 2 cars you mentioned have in common - they are both true duals. That is the key - unfortunately it is not easy to do on a Trans Am - TD dumps sound good.....outside the car - too much drone inside. The best solution is TDs taken over or under the axle and out the back. That is big money though!
I know true duals with some good mufflers would probably fix the problem but honestly, I like the way the borla looks, fits and its power potential with the open plate in the cutout.
Now I am like short shifting and throttling easy before and through that rpm range which sucks, not to mention to get to the good sound at 3500 and up, you gotta run it through the "glass pack" stage first. I guess there is no easy solution to this problem or you guys would have already done it. Not sure about running cats, I use race gas when spraying and that can't be good for cats, also cats are $$
