Default Cats or NO Cats???

ok, got an '02 SS and its pretty much stock with a few minor bolt-ons.

fixin to do my full exhaust and then i will be savin for a stall and cam.

i am gonna be doin Kooks Long Tubes with the high flow Y-pipe and hookin it up to my Flowmaster(i know Flowmaster sucks but its what i got for now and i hope to move to GMMG after i get more money)

i just wanna know if i should get cats or not???

my buddy has a 2000 TA with a (231/237, 595/595, 112 Degree cam) in his bolt on car and it hits a lick(sounds sweet)
hi car has long tubes with NO cats and its hooked into his Flowmaster
the car is pretty loud(good kinda loud) but im just wonderin if it will be too quiet with cats

i will be runnin full exhaust for a good while just so i can save up for my cam so how is my car gonna sound with LTs,no cats, and my Flowmaster???

also with that big of cam will i need any headers bigger than 1 3/4''???

thanks guys

As far as I know, the only guys runnin' CATs have to because of emissions. If I didn't HAVE TO, I wouldn't. Your car will be louder without them.

If your keeping the flowmaster-and dont require cats-DONT GET THEM
If your switching to GMMG keep the cats-the sound is much cleaner

I would say see if the QTP Q-Tec dual cut-out Y-pipe fits Kooks LT's I would believe it does, but check aroudn in case. That way you won't have cats, nor will you get restriction from the Flowmaster muffler. Just my $.02 I continue to recommend this Y pipe to jsut about everyone that is not getting cats.

i have pacesetter lt's and a SlowMaster muffler(sucks ***!) and no cats and its raspy as all hell.i HATE it.u have to have cats; just to keep the rasp to a minimum.trust me,at first it wont bother you,but it gets really annoying really fast.just get some carsound cats theyre cheap($30 ea.) and take away the rasp really good.the rasp is even worse when i have my cut-out open.honestly imo RASP SUCKS!andf id rather lose 1hp, than have my car sound like ****.

my friend just put jet hot LT's with a jet hot y-pipe NO cats and its to a flowmaster exhaust. It is very quiet. My car has stock manifolds and y-pipe and cats with flowmaster exhaust(american thunder) but i have a cutout right before the muffler. Still my car is louder then his, its kinda weird.

im afriad to get cats cuz i dont want it to be too quiet but then again if i dont get them then it may sound terrible

like has been said, if you're going to go w/GMMG get cats or plan on a bullet in the I-pipe. it'll be cheaper to get the bullet and install it than to go w/cats tho.

if you won't have GMMG for a long time, and don't have to smog, go w/an ORY.

The easy answer is dont get cats, and get duals. Will make good power and sound sweet! Also, consider that cats really do become a restriction if you get a nice sized cam.

Longtubes to dumped duals. <--Answer to any "what should I do with my exhaust" question.

Not a fan of the flowmaster or cats. Only time I advise someone to use cats is when they are set on a cat-back that doesn't sound good without them.

i had flowmaster with pacesetter lt's and no cats, it was pretty raspy

i now have gmmg and the same headers and no cats. i would NEVER do anything to make my car quieter or "less raspy" i have no problems at all with the rasp i get. i really dont notice it much. i have sound clips of my flowmaster on ls1sounds.com, as well as my gmmg, is the red ws6 donig a flyby on an onramp. save your money and get gmmg before the headers lol there is nothing else like it

i have the loudmouth and when i'll be going with the mac's and ory everyone says it'll be too loud and raspy but i like it loud so i'll see how i like it if it's too loud i'll just have to add a muffler.
