You will get better flow using one cat on each side of the Y-pipe. That would be the preferred method.

Running a cat that far back is pointless. If you have someone that's going to give you the hookup just for a having a cat, then go for it. As far as functionality goes, I don't that the cat would heat up to the proper to temp to do any good. I may be wrong though.
