Hey, i just bought the SLP Cold Air Intake Package... and i can't complain. It comes with a the cool looking SLP lid, Smooth bellow (rubber connector between the MAF and Throttle body), and the Ram air. The ram air is good in some ways and bad in others! On highway like at speeds of 60mph and up the Ram Air works at it's best! But for a daily driver like me, it doesnt help till im at the track. Now the way it can be harmful is if you live in an area with lots of rain (like me down here in FL). Because the Ram air sucks air into your engine, taking the cool air underneath the car. It can also suck water up... say when you hit a big puddle ! And can lead to damaging your engine . Well i guess now i'll have to either not drive as much in the rain, and try to dodge those big puddles! BUT! i researched most of the options for the intakes on the 01-02 F-bodies and the SLP Package looked like the best bet money wise, and greatest for HP range. I could be wrong but it does the job! extra 10-15 rwhp can't hurt!

if you have a straight/open ram air hood...go with the dual cone action.......you would be a fool to go with lid and ftra.........all you would do is pick up massive dirt and even water from puddles

and plus you DONT NEED both stock ram air and ftra..........try reading a thermodynamics/fluid machanics textbook, it'll tell you all that you wanna know. if you want the best performance get that tornado thing too, i havent engineered the product yet, but if it does work, its supposed to give you laminar flow instead of turbulant flow.

GM High-Tech magazine had an issue (May 2004) that tested a variety of lids from different manufacturers.

HP increase with a lid alone was 5 to 10 for $99. I picked up my SLP for $75 new. And the Fernco mod can be done for $7 if you want a smooth elbow.

I would just stick with a lid. No sense spending the extra $ when you can put it elsewhere.

It's more and less simple than you think.

Simple: The more air you can put through the engine in a given amount of time, the more power.

Complex (in layman's terms): If you analyze the air flow through the ram air hoods (which is signigicantly different depending on which hood you've got, and if you've done anything to increase the airflow such as removing the baffles in the WS6 hood), compared to the airflow gained via FTRA and the like, or with the free ram air mod (cutting a hole in the airbox), you may find a different answer. Each car responds to mods differently, though if you look at average gains, the lid/SLPRA or FTRA combo typically nets just as much if not more than lid/hood (especially with the SS).

Studying fluid mechanics/thermodynamics is a great way to gain understanding on the function of various parts/mods (and without a doubt necessary for design, but number crunching alone doesn't always cut it. Sometimes experimentation is required to see how theory performs in reality. Welcome to the board. Stick around, there's much you can learn .

BTW: I forgot to answer the original question. It does depend somewhat on what hood you've got, but for the difference in airflow, the hastle of cleaning it, and the initial cost, you'd probably get more for your money by starting out with a lid and ram air mod instead.

Here's one option. I don't have a t/a, so I haven't really looked into it, but if you search, you'll probably find a post on this. The best thing on this site is the search button .
