I heard that it doesn't do anything because the A/C compressor pulley is free spinning when off. This would have absolutely no advantage for the work put in. As stated above, you would only be adding .1 hp. Not worth the effort for that. If you want to help it out that little, just make sure you take a **** before racing. That will help your car be more lightweight.

This might be a good table to refer to:
= .005 faster on the 1/4
= .010 faster on the 1/4
= .020 faster on the 1/4
Maybe it works something like that?

I had a friend in high school who would take all the belts off at the track and run with none then put them on before he left. This was on a 71 chevelle, I would imagine the water pump was worth a couple ponies as long as he didn't run the car for too long.

Now I could see doing this mod if I had a shorter belt. I would take off the AC and bypass the power steering. you might see a slight difference at the track but you're not gonna feel any difference. Isn't worth the time involved for such a small gain if any to do just the AC. I know of people around here that take out their air filter when weather is good and no wind. I have seen an average of .05 gain in 1/4 but I would not recommend it unless conditions are just right.
