Default A/C Blues and question

Well, after 125K miles the AC suddenly quit. The compressor wouldn't cycle and the sensor voltage was low, so I was pretty sure the refrigerant was low. But as fast as I could put it in, I could hear it leak out up front somewhere. Hope upon hope it is not leaking where my tranny cooler is tied up front.
Question: if it is leaking at the evaporator, those things can be fixed, like a radiator, right?
It's going in the shop this week as I don't have the time to work on it with my wife driving it every day.

maybe, but remember, A/C systems have to hold higher pressure than a cooling system.

Yeah, thats true. I've welded a lot of stuff but never any AC related. Well maybe I'll get some good news and it'll be an O ring.

If it is leaking from the condensor it will have to be replaced because it cannot be repaired like a radiator. Look for any excessive oilly spots on all the a/c lines and components and that is more than likely where your leak is.

Yeah, I'm taking to a shop in the morning and let them "sniff" it out, if the freaking freon will stay in long enough, LOL. I just don't have time right now to do much investigating.

A/C parts that leak will have to be replaced. If you csan hear it is is likely underhood, up front like the condenser area maybe?

The condensor is made of aluminum and can be hard to repair. If you can find the hole and it is in the fins, you might be able to carefully remove the fins around the hole and have a shop braze it over. It's tricky if you can even find someone who knows how. Some radiator repair places can do it.

Most of the time it is better to just replace it. If a rock or something hit it and it is repairable and otherwise in good shape you might try the repair route.

If it looks to be in rough shape or you can't figure out how the hole got there, the condensor might be old and weak, better to replace it.

Call around, prices can vary a lot for a replacement.

Well, guys, it turned out to be a manifold hose, not the condensor. Problem is that now my compressor has a crack.
As far as no AC...a black car sitting in the FL sun w/no AC is killer, besides my wife mostly drives it now and doesn't want to look like a wrung out mop when she gets to the office.
Edit: us old folks can't take that heat, LOL
