Default cutout installation / questions

so i was planning on getting an electric cutout, but i think i'm gonna just get a manual first, 1-because i wanna make sure i'm gonna like the sound before i drop $200, and 2-because i'm not really wanting to spend $200 right now. I've got a couple questions first.

Should i use a cutout that the muffler shop already has or have them make one, or should i buy the flowtech one?

And do you think they could fabricate a cutout lid that was like half a lid so i'd have another option besides full open/closed?

Also, if in the future i want to install the electric, do i need to specify to the shop that the cutout they're putting on needs to have a 3 bolt end on it in order for the electric cutout to go on correctly, or is the 3 bolt standard for a cutout and the shop should know that anyway.

Thanks

All cutouts are basically the same. If the muffler shop has them in stock for around the same price as a flowtech I would use it to save on shipping.

As far as the lid... I have never heard of anyone trying to fabricate a half cap. I know when I have my electric cutout at half open it soulds terrible (like an exhaust leak). I wouldn't do it.

All cutouts use a three bolt cap. The only thing I have heard of some people doing is extending the bolts so the they have more threads beace when you add the electric plate there are barely enough threads. I just used lock-tite and they have been fine.

When they weld it in make sure they position it with enough clearance for the electric unit later - the motor sticks out about 6" - don't want to find out lining up it up to the studs on the cutout later that the motor hangs too low or will hit the bottom of the car. I'd think it would be cheaper to buy a cutout from a local speed shop/using one they already have than trying to fabricate you one.

Make sure it is a 3" and have it weld in your I-pipe
