the bassani is alot quieter inside the car than the borla. the bassani is also ran all the way out the back. sound bytes here http://www.vincihighperformance.com/...s1exhaust.html top one is my 00 formula w/stock cats and manifolds. the lower one is the wife's 99 formula w/bassani headers and gutted cats at the time.

I've had 7 iterations of exhaust systems on my car in the 6 years that I've owned it. The last and final version is Hooker 3" Cat Back (second time I've bought this cause I was happy with it before getting the TD fever)
...I also have Kooks 1 7/8" header with Kooks 3" y-pipes with high flow cats. With the high flow cats there is no rasp.
I'm sure I lost some HP but the car feels like it has much more torque and sounds great.
that's if the windows are rolled up. haha. very nice cat back. best of all worlds. i love mine. i'm running l.t.'s w/ a 3" o.r.y. and it sounds like a stock camaro w/ a catback. really quiet.

Do they just slide in?i would definetely stay away from cats, theyre too expensive and take away too much power, besides, i love the smell of gas. go with the cone type insert and try them out. I suppose these inserts may lose you a few ponies, but def not 30. you have to think, any time theres less noise, theres got to be more restriction (not in all cases, but most). go with the cones...
