Question 10-bolt?

Ok guys, everyone knows the stock 10-bolt is a P.O.S., but is there any way to strengthen it so that u dont need a 9" or a 12-bolt? I dont have the money for a new rear, but i love racin & go the the local track all the time. Im a little worried i will launch hard outta the hole & lose the rear one of these times, especially since its a M6. Any information will be appreciated.

Future mods:
F13-112 LSA
Hooker LT's
Hooker y-pipe
Hooker cat-back
Ported TB
LS6 intake
100-shot (wet) NX

You can get a girdle...it helps but it will still break after awhile...just an fyi you don't need to launch hard out of the hole to break one. i broke my 10-bolt shifting from 1-2 from a slow roll into 1st. soon as i let the clutch out for second gear

yea there is stuff you can do to make it stronger... moser sells 31 spline axles that are made for a 10 bolt... you have to get a new posi to fit the axles, and an aftermarket peice will be stronger than the stocker. and get the girdle... it will make the bearings last longer i believe. it all depends. stock 10 bolts have lasted long in the 11's through automatics... and stockers usually go as soon as you get a sticky tire on a manual... no matter what your mods. i have a moser 12 bolt... it was expensive, but money well spent. it has 4.10 gears and 33 spline axles w/ a c-clip eliminator kit. it's more of an investment in your car than anything. now i don't have to worry about it ever breaking really. hope this helps a little.

if you're really looking to make the 10 bolt last... stay on street tires. small nittos at the MOST! ... but launch softly and don't nail 2nd gear, kind of roll into second gear. you want to keep from "shocking" the drivetrain.

Man thats gonna be hard not to shock the rear cause i like to get in it. I have got my launch down to slight tire spin then i just lay into it threw the gears till the line. I race the same way on the streets if goin from a light. I guess i better just start saving for the moser 12-bolt. Cause with my driving style it definetly wont hold up w/ 100 shot NOS.

I wouldn't waste any money on the 10-bolt. The weak will always be the pinion support, and there's no way to strengthen that short of welding a bunch of gussets on the housing. Just save up for a 12-bolt - maybe you can find a used one - some guys seem to want to switch to a 9in. since they're quieter.

If you can find someone to weld up the brackets, the ford 8.8 is a good option. The moser is a great piece too. I'm going to get one when my rich uncle gets out of the poor house.
