Default Spark Plugs question?

I need new spark plugs, and I did some searching on here and see that the most recommended plugs were the NGK TR55. So I go to my local auto parts store to buy them and they said that they are not good for my car. They recommended the AC Delco Iridium. The NGK TR55's are copper, and they said I need platinum or iridium plugs, and if I did want NGK's to get the TR55-IX. So are they wrong or what kind should I get?

For regular street duty and occasional track visits the iridiums are fine. They'll last longer then the TR55s in your application.

AC Delcos are junk.

TR55s will be fine, just make sure you check the gaps before you install them. That's what I've been running. I'll be changing them again next weekend at 20k miles....not that they need it.

You can step up to the TR55 IX, they will definately last longer. I'll probably try those out next time around. If you've got the extra $$$ (which isn't very much extra) go for it.

Tell that guy he's an idiot, there's nothing wrong with running TR55s, TR5s, or TR6s in these cars. You can run them for 20k miles intervals, something along that line. The Iridiums will just go longer that's all.

I run the TR-55IX and think it's ok - nothing really more. I honestly thought my car ran better with the stock Delco platinum's. One thing that I don't like about the TR-55IX is that the cap unscrews from the top of the plug. Sometimes they can unscrew on their own and cause a persistent misfire. I've actually read good things about the Delco iridium plugs so I'll be switching to them when I install my headers.

ok, so are the AC Delco's crap or good? What comes in the ls1 from the factory; copper, platinum, iridium? Should I just get the TR55-IX, since they were in stock, or order the AC Delco's?

I have no dyno proven data or any of the like, but I did go from stock plugs I had since new, to the $ iridium NGKs, to the $$ iridium delcos. The delco's just seemed to run a tad smoother. even when the NGK's were new, the idle was a bit rougher. As far as durabillity goes, they all looked pretty good when i took them out and im sure they could have lasted much longer, but i can't help myself. but there is a lot to be said for, "a spark plug, is a spark plug"

NGK TR55s for the last 100,000 miles or so. I change them every 20-25K miles. Never tried the Iridiums. Yet.

The car comes with platnum from the factory. GM says 100K plugs, but we all know that is crap. Everyone that takes out their plugs Around 30K say's the platnum caps are gon and gaps are huge. I had the same experience. I put the NGK TR55IX plugs @ 30K. The stock ac delco plugs were crap. The TR55-IX plugs ran great. Great Idle & good HP & TQ #'s. Never had a problem with them right up to when I took them out @ 43K. I changed to TR55's when I did my headers. The irridium plugs had huge gaps when I removed them. Went in @ .057 and came out @ .070. I have had no problems with the TR55's, but will try the Delco Irridium next time. Either way I don't think you can go wrong.

My car came with Denso PTJ16R15's. I've changed them twice with NGK TR55's (3951) and gapped them at .055
