QTP Lt's/Catted Y-pipe question For all of you who have them I am wondering your ground clearance is? If it was terrible what did you have to do to get it to fit? and what was your final ground clearance? |
I'm installing mine today (hopefully everything goes well, yay for lack of install instructions) I'll let you know about ground clearance tomorrow. |
The Y-pipe has several joints. You need to play around with it until it tucks up as high as you can get it. This means, having to adjust it a few times until its right if you don't get it right the first time. It's worth the initial PITA factor, as no other Y-pipe flows better. |
I would stay away from it if you have an incline or speed bumps anywhere near where you live......i had mine tweaked several times and it still scraped even taking stuff at angles, ultimately i had to have it cut up and customized with 2 RandomTech Cats to finally have some ground clearance, RandomTech #70300 $239.82 each is what i used, it will cost you more than the $525 catted y from QTP to buy your 4" Flowmaster merge collector, cats, and labor, but if you end up having to do what i did in order to get ground clearance anyway, it will save you the $525 from not buying the QTP and you won't pay for a y-pipe twice :bang: The QTP y-pipe does flow very well, but ultimately if you only need a little ground clearance, you should be fine because like the other guy said no other y-pipe flows better, but my customized "QTP" (only thing that is left is the merge collector) looks better and i haven't scraped a single thing, and i don't have to take shit at an angle now.....a lot more enjoyable to drive the car and not worry about it scraping :D Props to Steve @ The Muffer Shoppe in Abilene TX!!!! anyway here's some pics Old One http://community.webshots.com/photo/...08474097YztANC http://community.webshots.com/photo/...08474314qIGrgR http://community.webshots.com/photo/...08474630tmQSlb New One http://community.webshots.com/photo/...08476527SluKmD http://community.webshots.com/photo/...08476533jXqkRX http://community.webshots.com/photo/...08476630VobshI |
Looks sweet! The key component to the great flow is the 4" Flowmaster Scavenger merge collector, and you retained that. |

:offtopic: but how could you sell that car!!!!!!! |
It hurt me tons to sell it, but as my daily driver, I was going to kill myself in it (I was streetracing way too much, and my newborn son needs me around). So, I sold it, got a rebadged WRX for my DD and a shitbox '88 Fox Vert (it's actually pretty nice) for a track car. I'm taking my addiction off the streets and on to the roadcourse. |
ah well i can respect that......take care of that boy!! |
slpss9723: That is some QUALITY work! I'm headed that way myself in the near future (custom y-pipe, not Abilene). Nice to know it CAN be done. -Mike |
thanx a lot.....if you can afford it.....wait i couldn't afford it :bang: .......get it done, because i think my clearance is better than stock, if not it's pretty damn close: you just have to find a guy that's willing to take the time to get it right because it certainly can be done!!! |
Slpss, are you lowered? I'm curious because I haven't heard of many people scraping as bad as your pics show with a stock suspension. |

http://video.ls1tech.com/Player.aspx...043A51EBA6&p=0 hear for yourself :D it sounds a little different now believe it or not with the new custom work and cats i guess the 158 more cfm from the RandomTechs gave it a little deeper/louder rumble at idle and also at WOT.....i'll get another video when i make it out to my parents house in the country so i can get loud again  |
I was wondering if anyone could post up pics of clearance using a pop can for scale? |
i'll get one up tomorrow ok |
hey taintedmeat: did you read the whole thread?? I had serious clearance issues with QTP's catted Y even after having it adjusted several times.....not trying to hurt QTP's business but i would strongly recommend spending a little more and get the RandomTech cats & Flowmaster merge collector individually and have a custom y built i wish i would have done that first instead of spending $525 plus labor to install, then $493.44 after shipping for the cats, and then $240 labor on my damn y-pipe setups: you can get the merge collector for $49.99 from QTP if you want to stick with them, then labor for install which you're going to have to spend anyway :thumb:$543.43=a lot less headache in my opinion!!! |
